Bill Crawford joined the church as a teenage youth while living with his aunt in Oregon. He attended a semester at Ricks College before serving a Spanish-speaking mission to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He studied mechanical engineering and aerospace studies at BYU, where he met the love of his life, Cheryl Lott. Bill received a commission in the United States Air Force in December 1994.

During his time in the Air Force, Bill flew the F-16 fighter and B-2 bomber. He served as both a flight leader and mission commander, logging combat time in both aircraft, including a 35.5 hour non-stop combat mission from Missouri to Iraq and back during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Bill attended the Harvard Business School, where he received a Master in Business Administration degree in 2006. He came to BYU-Idaho after working for several years in the medical device industry as a business manager.

Bill and Cheryl are the parents of six children. Their oldest child, Kaiti, is a freshman at BYU-Idaho. Bill's favorite church callings have been teaching Primary and youth Sunday School. He loves to teach and to cook.
