General Authority Seventy


Elder Joaquin E. Costa was sustained as a General Authority Seventy on April 2, 2016. At the time of his call, he had been serving in the Fourth Quorum of the Seventy in the South America Northwest Area. He previously served as a member of the Brazil Area Presidency. He is currently serving at Church headquarters. 

Elder Costa received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Universidad de Buenos Aires and a master’s degree in business administration from Brigham Young University. He worked in the banking industry in Argentina, the Czech Republic, and the Sultanate of Oman in the Middle East. At the time of his call, he was working in Lima, Peru with a Danish investment firm focused on microfinance.

Elder Costa has served in numerous Church callings, including bishop, counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor, and Area Seventy. He was born in Concordia, Entre Rios, Argentina.

Sister Renee Costa was born in Cordoba, Argentina. She graduated from Universidad del Salvador with a bachelor’s in English-Spanish translation. She and Elder Costa met in Buenos Aires and were married in the Buenos Aires, Argentina Temple.  They are the parents of four children. Sister Costa is enrolled as a BYU-Idaho online student in marriage and family studies.

Sister Costa served as president of the young women, relief society, and primary organizations. She was also an early morning seminary teacher and full-time missionary in the Chile Osorno Mission. Sister Costa currently teaches relief society and is on the Church’s Spanish Editing Committee.
